Applicants require a first-rate undergraduate degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or a closely related discipline. It is expected that applicants have completed undergraduate courses in organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, physics, calculus and statistics, in addition to food science. Food science background should include: food process science; food chemistry; food analysis; food laws, regulations, and quality assurance; microorganisms in food systems; and principles of food engineering. Students lacking sufficient background in these areas may be able to fill these gaps by taking appropriate upper-level undergraduate courses, two of which may be credited towards the MFS degree.
An undergraduate degree in Food Science or related subject, with a minimum academic requirements as listed on the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies ; three letters of reference; official transcripts, accompanied by a degree certificate; and evidence of competency to pursue studies in the English language.
The MFS program values diversity and wants to attract a mix of students from around the world to join with Canadian students.
The Master of Food Science degree is highly relevant for both international students and students residing in Canada. Applicants with an undergraduate degree in Food Science or related subject will be considered for admission upon fulfillment of admission requirements.

Selected applicants will be required to successfully complete an interview with a faculty member from Food Science. Where practical, the interview will be carried out in person, but in some cases a video interview will have to suffice. The interview will be carried out after the application process is complete.
The application deadline is the beginning of January and the program starts in September. It is best to apply early to obtain a visa (if you are an international student) and secure your spot in the program.
